If you’re looking for some of the best maternity workout clothes available at popular retailers, you’re in luck. Keep reading to see what Target, Motherhood Maternity, and Amazon have to offer for the best maternity activewear.
I’ve recently rediscovered exercise. Here’s the thing. I used to love to exercise all the time before I had kids. If I wasn’t playing basketball, I was at the gym running/jogging/lifting weights. I was super into working out.
After I had my first baby, I got right back into exercise again by going on vigorous walks while pushing a stroller. I lost the baby weight fast and felt good about myself.
Then I had baby #2. I would go on walks occasionally (that double stroller sure came in handy!) but not as often as I used to. And forget about jogging or getting my heart rate up.
I got pregnant with baby #3 when baby #2 was only 10 months old. Needless to say, after that my exercise routine went out the window.
So just a few months ago I was weighing myself on the scale, thinking about how I’d love to get back into shape and start really exercising again. Kid #1 is now in kindergarten, and I have a little more time on my hands than I used to.
It took a little while to get back into a routine, but now I walk/jog/run and take the kids on walks about 3-4 times a week, if not more.
It’s a process, but I’m trying to eat better, feeling great about my body, and loving those endorphins! Now that I’m working out consistently, I’m wondering how I ever went all those months without it. Then I remember, oh yeah, I was taking care of three kids!
But . . . my husband and I both agree that we’d like to have one more kid. So, the question I’ve been debating is, how do I keep up my exercise routine once I’m pregnant? Those really cute jogging pants I sported during/between/after pregnancy have completely stretched out and I had to toss ‘em a little while ago.
I’ve found that if I’m comfortable and I like what I’m wearing, I’m more likely to have a good workout. Call me crazy, but I feel like a lot of women feel this way.
You don’t want to go sweat in nasty clothes. You want to sweat in cute maternity workout clothes! So I’ve been doing some research on cute and affordable maternity workout clothes or maternity activewear that I can purchase once I get pregnant with baby #4. Most of the stuff I’m wearing now at a size 8/10 is not going to fit very well with a pregnant belly. But I also don’t want to spend tons of money on maternity clothes if this is our last baby.
Here are a few places where you can buy maternity activewear and not break the bank:
Best Maternity Workout Clothes
Target’s Best Maternity Workout Clothes
Oh, Target, why can’t you stop being great at everything?
I really like Target’s selection of exercise clothes for pregnancy because they’re cheap, cute, and look super comfy.
They don’t have a huge selection (total number of items is 21), but the stuff they do have would look great on pretty much any body shape. They have the most common staples any active pregnant lady would need, such as these great maternity sweatpants:
If pushing those maternity workout pants under the belly isn’t your thing, you can also get maternity workout leggings that go over the hump:
I like that the color scheme of all the maternity pants is basically black/gray/dark gray. Because let’s be honest, who wants to show off their legs when they’re pregnant? These colors look great on anybody and put all the attention where it deserves to be – on your cute pregnant belly!
Target’s maternity workout shirts consist of tank tops, cap sleeves, and a few jackets, which is great if you’re pregnant in the colder months.
Target also has plenty of great nursing bras to choose from like this maternity workout nursing bra (it does run small, so order a few sizes up!) that gives you plenty of support no matter the type of workout you’re doing:
So, in short, Target’s a great place to get your basic workout staples, but don’t expect a huge selection.
Motherhood Maternity’s Best Maternity Workout Clothes
Almost anything at Motherhood Maternity is comfortable, but I hesitate to shop there when I’m pregnant because I usually find it on the expensive end.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Motherhood Maternity activewear is comparatively priced with Target however! They have 40 items to pick from, rather than Target’s 21, so that’s another thing in their favor.
Also, Target doesn’t have maternity workout shorts as an option in their maternity activewear, but Motherhood does! If you like to workout in shorts rather than capris or pants/leggings, than these maternity workout shorts look super comfy and they’re less than $20:
Motherhood Maternity also has a sale going on right now with their activewear, so if you buy 2 tops you get the 3rd free!
Amazon’s Best Maternity Workout Clothes
On Amazon there are tons of maternity workout clothes to pick from. The selection is endless. So I thought I’d make things easier on myself and just look at the clothes considered “best sellers”:
My first impression was, “What is up with all the graphic tees?” I’m not a person who particularly enjoys wearing graphic tees when I work out, but if it’s your thing, then Amazon is the right place to buy ‘em! They have funny/silly ones about pregnancy like this one:
and this one:
So if you like to wear maternity graphic tees, you’ve found a place where they’re affordable and aplenty.
However, I got really excited when I saw these maternity yoga pants for tall women:
As I’m 5’11”, I am always looking for workout pants that don’t look like highwaters after one wash. I like that Amazon features this product, because there are not a lot of places where you can find pants for taller pregnant women. I also like that these pants are versatile. You can stretch them way up over your pregnant belly, or down below if you prefer that. A great pair of maternity yoga pants goes a long way!
There are a lot of places where you can buy maternity activewear so you can keep up your routine, and still look cute and stylish when you work out. Exercising while pregnant is a great way to keep you happy and healthy as a new mom and keep all those hormones in better balance.
