Kid proofing is tough to do, but so necessary. We used to drive completely across the country 2-4 times a year when out kids were little. We let them color in the car, but only with colored pencils. No sticky snacks and if they drank something other than water, then it had to be in a sealed cup with a lid that prevented leaks. It's great that GM is making their vehicles kid proof from the get go.

Oh my word!! I can only imagine! I really should have added in a point about making sure to clean out your car regularly, so that that important document or thing you intended on keeping (but keep forgetting is in the back of the car), don't get ruined by your kids!

Oh, the juice rule! We were in the middle of a 12-hour car trip when our daughter accidentally knocked over her orange juice and didn't notice until the next rest stop. It got on the DVDs and on my husband's paperwork from his job. It was a very long time before she was allowed to have beverages in the car again!

Great point Becca! Just lock the car, and then perhaps keep the keys out of reach too, so your child doesn't unlock it when they play with the keys without your knowledge. Sorry about your car, but am glad you son is alright!

Just thought I should comment that you don't always have to leave the keys in the car for a kid to work out how to move a vehicle. How do I know? Why, just the other week I came downstairs to my daughter screaming that my son was driving my car, and my car stuck half-way through a barbwire fence. He was fine, by the way. The damage to the car was superficial. But because I'd parked at the top of a very small rolling hill, he was able to move the car into neutral and down it went. The moral of this story is, be smart and lock your car.
