Oh! That's a fun idea too. One of my fans on Facebook said she does three gifts, but with different parameters: 1) something handmade 2) something to read and 3) something to share. I think the handmade gift idea is especially sweet because it makes a person really think and create and take time with their gift and who they are giving it to.

Although I love this idea, we don't do it. (Oddly enough it's because I'm too cheap, so I squirrel away things all year as I find them.) But if three gifts is too challenging, my favourite painting of the Nativity depicts the shepherds giving a lamb to the Christ child (I love it because of the value that lamb would have to the shepherds - it is quite literally their livelihood, and so much like the widow's mite, it is a bigger sacrifice the wise man's gold) so you could always add a shepherd gift as well. I'm not sure what form this would take, but to my mind it would be something simple and homemade, maybe a favourite cookie or a blanket for a favourite doll. Or perhaps you could focus on their adoration, and do a photo book with things you love about your child, or a handwritten love letter woith words of encouragement. The shepherds had nothing to give, but I am sure they did not arrive empty handed.
