Absolutely! I like the "taking a break when you need it, and not when you don't." That's SO perfect!

The beauty of homeschooling is that parents can do what's right for their children as individuals and as a family. You can tailor your summer schedule to whatever works well for you, including extra focus on certain subjects or skills, studying only a couple hours a day, or using travel and activities as genuine learning experiences. Best of all, homeschooling with the attitude that we're always learning, and that learning is fun, blurs the lines between "school" and "the rest of life," helping children grow into enjoying learning in all its forms. That includes life skills, hobbies, outreach/volunteering, and sports, as well as academics. As children begin reading for fun and developing hobbies and favorite activities that are positive uses for their time, they will need less and less guidance for the summer weeks, without wasting time or filling it up with media consumption or other pitfalls of unstructured time.

I don't homeschool now, but I do get the point of schooling through summer.
