I always hang dry anything that is a stretchy/sport fabric or has a lot of elastic (eg. bra) because the heat of the dryer is hard on anything elastic and shortens its life.

Exactly. I you have a warm tshirt or towel in your hand to get it out of the dryer why on early wouldn’t you fold it and put it in the basket now? I’ve never understood treating folding as a separate job. Gradually my husband switched over to wrinkle resistant shirts as they needed replacing. Then when a shirt went into the hamper the hanger went into a small basket beside it. This way in the laundry room when the warm shirt comes out of the dryer it goes back on it’s hanger and on a rod over the machines to cool. Once the dryer load is all folder or hung, all the hangers and the basket of folded items goes away.

Another tip, having a delayed start function on the washer is brilliant. Load the machine at night and set to run very early (i wanted it done by 5am) so when I woke up it was ready for the dryer. By the time breakfast was over and lunches packed for school and work, the dryer was done. Ten minutes to fold and hang everything and it can wait until after work to carry it to the closet. Basically 10 minutes at night and 10 minutes in the morning and a load is finished while you are doing other things. Laundry has never been an event for me and certainly not one that took three days. To each their own, but this process seems unnecessarily lengthy.

I love the sheets only once a year! So, I guess you washed your feet every night before bed?
Also, Kaitlyn, when I first saw someone, sorry don’t remember who, put the shirts on the bed, and put hangers, like you; I thought I’d heard angels sing!! I absolutely dispised hanging up things too!

I use the light dark system and it only seems that whites and polyesters attract the dye so I do try to make those a separate load. However, jeans and towels always get a bath together and much like Lamia’s family only once the dirt shows!

I don’t fold undies or bras either. Just roll socks. For awhile we had all tops in 1 drawer, and bottoms in another for girls- no hanging clothes at all. They were at their dad’s every weekend, so no church. But it took so long every morning, for them to pick out their own clothes, that now I roll up outfits, top, bottom, panties and socks, and put in their drawer. Then I ask, “Blue pants, or red?” If they need a choice that day. Most they don’t. Sped up our get ready time so much!! I learned that from a mommy blogger.

I too, hang my clothes as they come from the drying. Why takes them from the dryer and crammed them in a basket to get all wrinkled up? Socks and underwear might be a little different. But to string out laundry day over three day?. If I had a large family of which I did, when I did a load it would get completed that day. But then I did clothes nearly every day. Having diapers and bed wetting child did’ help. And for goodness sakes, sort out those. Clothes!

It totally is impossible to teach little kids the smell test. ha. But, I like your mom. I can tell. 🙂

I retract the Commandments in your case. Impossible to teach to little’uns. I remember those from my teen years.

Here’s another lovely rule Mom had. At any given time she would go into our room. Any clothing she deemed was carelessly discarded such as on the floor was subject to confiscation. Mom would say that it was disrespectful to her to be so uncaring when she would deprive herself of things so we would not have to do without. Funny thing about the “confiscation raids” We never figure out how or why we got an item back. It would just one day appear washed and folded on the bed.

Around age 15 I was in a sloppy state of mind.So many items where confiscated that I had to wear the same jeans to school for over a week. She eventually took mercy on me and gave clothes back. Gotta love the tough (fair)love.
