I know you are right. And I do sometimes do crafts with my kids. It's just rare. I think with time we'll find something that my girls enjoy creating and crafting, and then I will let them go at it with a passion. But, I just feel like many crafts for preschoolers aren't very thrilling, to them or me. They have been playing with play-doh lately, and still doing lots of painting, drawing, writing, etc. I appreciate your comment and your thoughts.

In regards to crafts, it's the process, not the product that is important. Kids learn so much by doing crafts such as spatial relationships, math concepts, and higher level thinking skills, and they also build on fine motor skills which are important for writing. They also gain more self esteem in the ability to start and finish a project, and in being able to create something that pleases him/her. The resulting product doesn't even have to look like what it was "supposed" to look like for the benefits to be gained. In addition, it also doesn't really matter how long the craft project lasts because ultimately the value is in the making and not in the project itself. (One of the reasons that crafts using recycled materials are so popular for children's crafts. :-) ) Sometimes the crafter and the parent/teacher would like it if the project lasts and is generally pleasing (think Christmas gifts, for instance) but for the vast majority of children's crafts, the importance is in the process. I don't mean to sound like I am preaching, and I'm sorry if it's coming off that way, but I just wanted to point out the value in having children make crafts in addition to drawing and painting.

Have you heard of Scripture Scouts, Katelyn? They were written back in the time of "tapes," but they're on CD now. The music is awesome. The songs are really fun, and they have one for New Testament, Old Testament, Book of Mormon, and Articles of Faith. It looks like they have one now for the Family Proclamation, too. If you are looking for songs for the Old Testament, check them out. I haven't heard that particular CD, but I have all the others and love them.

My grandson is a bear to get to school. He likes it when he gets there, but getting him there is crazy. He only goes two days a week. This would be great for those other days. Kids need all the reading help they can get.

Hey Katelyn! My sweet baby Roxie is quite the iPad junkie. Ha Ha! That's probably my fault. Anyway, she loves books and loves the iPad so she would love this app. Thanks for introducing it to us.

I'm glad you think we'd get along in real life. We probably would! I think as my girls continue to grow older their different learning styles will definitely be a bigger factor in how I teach them. My girls like to create too, so I will do crafts occasionally. I'm trying to embrace it.

Katelyn, I am not a super crafty mom. I struggle with the clean up and the mess, but my girls love to create, so we make do. Also, my girls learn in very different ways. I am learning that I need to make it more fun, especially for my second child. I think this app would really create a positive learning environment for her. I don't like a lot of screen time, but I think learning apps are appropriate when used in moderation. Thanks for the giveaway and the tips! I think we would get along in real life - I guess we settle for online. :)
