I have not tried Stitch Fix before, but I have a lot of friends who love it. I’m very tall so I’m a bit doubtful they would have bottoms to fit me, but tops and accessories would be fun to try outside of my regular everyday wear. I enjoyed your article about frugal people and Stitch Fix because I am frugal about clothing.

I had actually filled everything out for Stitch Fix and thought maybe I should read some reviews first! Thanks for your honest in-depth review, it made my decision much easier. Not only am I frugal, I just don’t have that kind of money to spend on clothing! By the way, you looked fantastic in the orange cardigan with the graphic tee underneath ?

In reply to Roma. Ha! Well I am glad you appreciate my honesty! I have tried them several times now and still have only kept a few items. I keep hoping for seriously amazing stuff and they usually miss the mark. And I've noticed the quality doesn't always live up to the price.

I was thinking subscribing to stitch fix and I found your review….I wanted to say thank you very much for your honest review, it really helped me a lot as what to expect from the box and it’s pricing etc. I must say I’m exactly like you…I frugal mom with kids who puke and leak poop and wipe noses on my clothes and I really don’t want to spend this much on regular clothes lol ?

So, I’ve had a bit of a paradigm shift which started in earnest in early 2017. Like you, I want “timeless, quality items,” but the catch? I can’t want it for super cheap unless I’m shopping second-hand. Quality costs.

I can either shop clearance racks and choose my favorites from among them (and really, the item might not be perfect for me, and it might not be quality so it won’t necessarily last), or I can shop for items that I really like and be willing to pay more for those items, and just buy less stuff.

I was still able to shop with coupon codes and such, but being more intentional with what I purchased (and not afraid to spend more than my usual Target clearance rack) has yielded good results for me.

I tried Stitch Fix for the first time in 2014 and just wasn’t ready. In 2017, it helped me tremendously. I also feel more confident shopping for myself now.

In reply to Chelsea @ Life With My Littles. The last box I got there was a pair of pants for $40, a pair of shoes for $45 and a dress for $78 that I loved. The quality of the products are great. My boyfriend also gets the box, and his total for all five items was $110. It had a sweater, two shirts, a pair of shoes, and a pair of shorts. I really enjoy getting the boxes and trying things on.

In reply to Charlee @ Humble in a Heartbeat. Right. If you hate shopping and sick of your same cheap-o clothes that you end up hating after a while, I think StitchFix could totally be worth it. My husband tried to remind me of the true Value of items versus cost (but he isn't inheritedly frugal like me). Retraining the brain for sure.

In reply to Jenny @ Unremarkable Files. I wanted to be honest, because I have seen many just rave about it, and as a frugal person I don't get it!! Yea nice new clothes!! For over $150!! My frugal person is dying inside! I can usually get like a dozen pieces of clothing or more (depending on who they are for) for $150!! And have the option to return them beyond 3 days....

I thought all those clothes looked great on you, but I was a bit surprised at the prices. I’m used to paying much less, but I tend to shop by price vs. quality as well. I am trying to retrain my brain to look for more quality clothes that I can keep for many years, because right now my closet is full of clothes that I hate. I need a new wardrobe, but it will be so expensive to replace everything! I might try StitchFix in the future now that I know what to expect.

I’m with you. I’ve thought a lot about Stitch Fix because I HATE shopping and love the idea of someone else (who is at least somewhat fashionable, unlike me, lol) finding things for me. But I just can’t justify the expense right now as a work-at-home mom. Thanks so much for the honest review! I imagine I’d probably feel about the same way.
