Why she thought it would be great to paint her DIY Christmas present in her new nice Kidbox jeans is beyond me, but I wasn’t very happy about it.
But, it gave me a chance to test out another laundry stain remover technique to share with you, and thankfully it worked great and she has been wearing this pair of jeans, stain-free, for several more months!
How to Get Paint Out of Jeans
First, it’s important to know what type of paint you are dealing with on your jeans.
You will treat oil paint and latex paint differently than you will when trying to figure out how to get acrylic paint out of jeans or craft paint off jeans.
The type of jeans may matter as well, if they are overly stretchy or made from a higher percentage of synthetic fibers. I’m going to assume your jeans are mostly cotton, but if they are not, you may want to do a spot test before proceeding.
I’m not responsible if you ruin your pants further, so test first, always!
Materials Need to Remove Paint from Jeans
When it comes to getting paint out of jeans, there are only a few materials you need, and thankfully, they are cheap and accessible!
- Isopropyl Alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol – any % will do. I used 91%)
- Butterknife
- Toothbrush
- Clean, dry cloth
- Cotton balls, paper towel, or another blotting rag
Instructions on Getting Paint Out of Jeans
This is the process of how to get dried paint out of jeans (and it should work for wet acrylic paint on jeans too).

1.Prep your jeans and work area.
Place a dry, thick, clean towel underneath the part of the jeans that
You may also want to put down something to protect your table or work surface (like a cloth or plastic table cloth) from the rubbing alcohol.
2. Scrape off any excess paint from jeans.
If possible, gently scrape off any excess acrylic paint from jeans using a butter knife. Don’t be so aggressive you damage your jean fibers.
3. Pour isopropyl alcohol onto the stain.
Let it sit and soak for about five minutes. Be sure to close the lid on it, and use some ventilation (open door, fan, etc) as it smells very strong.
3. Begin blotting to remove paint from jeans.
Gently, but firmly, blot to remove paint stain from jeans, lightly scrubbing and pressing. You don’t want to spread the paint to a larger area.
4. Repeat pouring and blotting.
Re-wet the jeans with alcohol as needed, and continue to blot and scrub the stain until it is removed. You can use a toothbrush to loosen up stubborn paint stains.
5. Once you have removed acrylic paint from jeans, wash in cold water.
Launder your jeans normally, but perferbably in a cold wash. Check them afterward and inspect for any lingering paint stain on your jeans. Then dry normally.
