How to Get Slime Out of Carpet
Our preferred method to get slime out of carpet is to use vinegar.
Many people have also successfully used rubbing alcohol.
Just make sure to always read and follow the labels of the products used and adults only should clean the slime.
Slime is primarily made up of glue and the majority of glue made is washable. We actually prefer Elmer’s glue for this reason because it is non-toxic and washable.

It was not completely dried out, thankfully.

Always make sure you spot test the vinegar on your carpet before using.
- Remove slime from the carpet with your hands.
Remove as much slime as you can by hand.
This is how much we removed at first, you can see there is still quite a bit left that is stuck to the carpet fibers. - Continue removing slime off carpet.
Continue picking out as much of the slime as you can. The more you can remove with your hands the better. Here is where we ended up before treating further.
- Make a cleaning solution
Mix 2 parts vinegar with 1 part water and put it into a spray bottle.
- Apply mixture.
Spray the vinegar mixture on the slime. Allow it to soak in. You should immediately start to see the slime dissolve.
- Blot
Blot the slime with a paper towel to remove some of the spray mixture and then repeat with more spray until the slime is gone. Keep repeating until the slime is removed.
- Remove stain
If after using the vinegar mixture your carpet is stained, you can use OxiClean to remove the stain from the carpet. The vinegar mixture should remove all of the slime.

Tips for The Best Results When Cleaning a Stained Area
Don’t forget to have a little bit of patience. When it comes to carpet cleaning, that’s the first thing. It’s amazing how that slime spot can just stick and stay. It really can also depend on the type of slime.
Since slime is a sticky substance, it’s going to take a bit more cleaning power to get rid of it. If you’re lucky enough to get it while it’s still wet slime, grab a paper towel or clean towel and try to pull up small pieces. This simple method can help in reducing the size of the stain by a lot.
Any slime residue that is left should be able to be treated as mentioned above. Once it’s a carpet stain, that means that the slime particles have settled in and are going to need a little bit of elbow grease to get out. Some people also swear that using ice cubes and then a dull butter knife for scraping the homemade slime stain off the carpet works as well! You can use the best way that works for you to get rid of that dry slime!
How to Get Dried Slime Out of Carpet
As soon as you see the slime on carpet or clothes you’re going to want to get it out immediately.
Letting it sit and dry out will only make it harder to remove. But unfortunately, sometimes you may not see it right away and if this happens, don’t worry.
Even with dried slime you can follow the methods above and you should be able to get the slime out.
If you find you cannot get out the dried slime with your hands, try applying some ice on top of the slime. Let this sit for 10 minutes or until frozen.
Once the slime is frozen you should able to pick or break the slime off the carpet.
You can then follow the steps above and apply the vinegar mixture to remove the rest.
