It has been a long winter here in New York, and we have spent so much time at home over the last year due to COVID-19.
I am so ready for warmer weather, for spring, for decluttering, for getting out, and having a new start.
And that starts with spring cleaning.
Our home stays fairly clean and picked up through the year, but with twin babies beginning to crawl 😱 and recent septic tank issues and overflowing toilets, and I’m ready to open some windows, scrub some walls, and get to work spring cleaning my house!
Spring cleaning is an essential yearly event that can change the way you feel about your home and even your life. A time to get rid of the old, and bring on the new!
But, let’s be honest. I don’t have the time, energy, or will-power to deep clean or spring clean for WEEKS. I already mentioned I’m going to have twin crawling babies soon, right?? Add in homeschooling and work, and yeah, not a lot of time!
It can be difficult to organize your spring cleaning workflow, so here are a few ideas you can implement that will allow you to get your spring cleaning done fast!
How to Spring Clean Your House Fast
1. Have a Plan in Place
When you embark on spring cleaning, it is impervious to have a plan ready to follow. Of course, you will want to be flexible and go with the flow when unexpected events arise (and babies cry), but you will find it is much easier to stay on track when you have a list prepared beforehand of what you wish to accomplish that day, or even in that hour.
Whether it is brief or super detailed is up to you, as long as it is there.
You can get a spring cleaning checklist printable on a different post of mine as a great place to get started.
You can only spring clean fast and efficiently when you have a master plan in place for when you’ll get to all those little things on your spring cleaning list.
2. Put on Some Upbeat Music
Nothing makes cleaning more bearable than some good music. Gather your favorite tunes and prepare a special spring cleaning playlist.
Lively music with a good, strong beat is one of the best ways to keep your energy up when you have a big cleaning job ahead.
If you are cleaning with your kids (which you totally should), you can implement several of these great cleaning games for kids.
3. Use in 3-in-1 Cleaners
To make cleaning the whole house easier on you, it’s super helpful to have a product that will not only clean your hard surfaces well for you but also disinfect and deodorize at the same time.
This spring I am laying down a new cleaning product called HyperShield. It effectively kills 99.9% of common household germs, kills cold and flu viruses and has demonstrated effectiveness against COVID-19, and kills household bacteria*. Yet, HyperShield is free of harsh chlorine bleach, phosphates, and harsh chemicals.
HyperShield removes food, stains, eliminates odors (leaving behind a nice clean fresh scent instead), acts as a degreaser to cut through tough grease and grime without much scrubbing, disinfects as it cleans, protects against mold and mildew, and cleans surfaces to a streak-free shine!
HyperShield is Chemical Guys’ first product designed entirely with the home in mind (they’ve been making auto-detailing products for 20+ years) and one that is great to spring cleaning a house fast as it does so much at once!
Spray it on any hard, non-porous, non-food contact surface in your house and you’ll speed clean the deep clean!
I have used HyperShield on toilets, bathroom counters, trash cans, tables, bookcases, door knobs, my telephones, windows, ledges, and more! I love how easy it is to spray and wipe and the nice clean smell left behind.

4. Schedule in Breaks
You will most certainly be working hard while spring cleaning your house, but you don’t want to burn out. Be sure to schedule some breaks for yourself throughout your day scrubbing.
Even a 15-minute break once every few hours will keep your spirits up!
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and grab a snack during this time, as it will give you the energy necessary to stick to the task.
5. Race against Yourself
The best challenge is a challenge against yourself.
When you are engaging in spring cleaning, give yourself the challenge of beating your own speed. Set a timer and try to beat the minutes or hours you spent in the last room.
This is an especially excellent thing to do with your kids helping. You could even think about seeing who could get their cleaning bingo card done first!
Be creative in your challenges, and the time will fly by.
6. Set a Goal with a Reward
From young to old, we all love a great reward. When you have a huge task such as spring cleaning the whole house to accomplish, it can help to give yourself a specific goal, and reward yourself with something special when that goal has been achieved.
Whether you want to go out for dinner when finished or get a pedicure with a friend, you deserve to be pampered after all your hard work. This will give you something to look forward to, and to motivate you to clean when you are feeling burnt out and ready to quit.
I think I might just reward myself with a party, as crazy as that sounds (make a mess in your clean house?) as it will be a great way to show that my house was actually cleaned and stayed that way long enough to entertain.😁
Don’t forget to clean the tops of cabinets and to take some extra time on areas that have a lot of dust. It’s amazing how the surface areas are a good place to store all that dirt! With some regular cleaning, the daunting task won’t really feel all that bad! Don’t forget to clean the ceiling fans and also the shower head, too! The last thing that you want to have happen is to skip areas that just need a little bit of sprucing up!
Spring cleaning can take as little or as long as you let it. If you are trying to get your organizing done in as little time as possible, there are ways to give you the extra boost you need.
Use some of these tips as motivation, download a spring cleaning checklist, and you will notice how much easier it is to keep on track and get the job done. A squeaky clean, organized home comes to those who persist!
Good luck and happy cleaning!
