Are you ready to learn how to throw a diaper baby shower? New parents know that having a pack of diapers on hand is always a must! When you’re welcoming a new baby, a great idea to celebrate might be to skip the traditional baby shower and have a great diaper party instead!
If you need an idea of a diaper shower to host or throw, check out the tips for the best diaper shower etiquette below! It’s similar to a traditional shower, but the fun part is that it’s just an awesome diaper party!
When I was pregnant for the first time, my husband’s natural nesting instinct was plain and simple – buy diapers.
Every pregnancy since, this same instinct takes over, and he knows what he can do to help prepare for our next bundle of joy – buy diapers!
Diapers are one of those things that you always need as a mom, and a great thing to stock up on before baby arrives so you don’t make the diapering mistake of running out in the middle of the night, or some other less than convenient time.
As a non-first time mom, I love it when my friends still want to do something special to honor the new life growing inside me by doing a simple get together or gifting me a package of diapers. I don’t want a full baby shower or anything at this point, but always love a package of diapers from a friend.
I love the idea of throwing a diaper baby shower for an expecting mom, especially for second-time moms who don’t need all the baby gear, clothes, blankets, bottles, and supplies like first-time moms do. Diapers are one of those practical baby shower gifts that second-time moms still need!
Apparently, this time of year, from July to October, is baby time, as an average of 12,250 babies are born every day in the US during these months, which is 1,000 more than the average winter day.
In honor of all the babies being born right now, I gathered together some fun ideas on hosting a diaper shower for a pregnant mom about to deliver.
Diaper Shower Party Invitations & Decorations
Talk with your pregnant friend and determine a date that works for both of you (and hopefully most of the guests). Get a list of people she wants to invite, their addresses or email addresses, and create an invitation. A good length of time for a baby shower is two hours, and before or after normal eating times so you don’t feel the pressure to serve a full-on meal for everyone.
Send out the invitations as early as possible, hopefully at least two weeks before the event. Ask for RSVP’s in many different ways too (email, text, calls, Facebook).
Diaper Shower Decorations
Next, start planning out the diaper shower decorations and prepping them ahead of time. Try to come up with some fun theme that the pregnant mom will love and will fit your budget and your level of craftiness.
I found some cute diaper-themed decoration ideas which are fun!
You can create a cute and easy DIY Baby Shower Banner with Diapers using a simple ribbon, letters, clothing pins, and diapers.
A fun welcome decoration for guests is to have them write a message on a diaper as soon as they arrive. The funnier the phrases, the better. Or you could simply write some encouragement for mom. Both work.
You can also make a diaper wreath or diaper bouquet.
And then there is the ever popular diaper cake which you could make as part of the decorations too or as a centerpiece. There are a ton of variations on how to do it, shapes they can take, and themes/colors, so have fun with it!
Stock Up on Diapers
If you are using diapers as part of your decor, as a gift for your friend, and for diaper-themed baby shower games (see below) then chances are you’ll need to stock up on some diapers yourself in order to host a killer diaper shower!
Right now through August 22, you can get $10 off the purchase of two Pampers or Luvs diapers or wipes items, or $18 off the purchase of three Pampers or Luvs items from Sam’s Club in-store and online at samsclub.com. Savings are automatically calculated when you check out at the register in-club, use their Scan & Go app, or check out online.
With the convenience of Club Pickup, you can order all the diapers and wipes online and then drive to your club (where available) and everything is already waiting for you, with no need to even get out of your car.
Pampers Swaddlers are great for making diaper shower decorations because they are mostly white, allowing you to add our own details without distractions or color clashes. Plus, Swaddlers are excellent newborn diapers!
And I’m a huge fan of the Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes if you’re gifting wipes too.
Diaper Baby Shower Treat Ideas
As you plan ahead for the party, it’s good to plan out what treats you’ll serve your guests too. It’s always fun to try to have some diaper-themed treats and eats. I was able to find a few ideas online that feature diapers:
- Dirty Diapers (ground beef, cheese, and a pickle wrapped up in a crescent roll)
- Doo Doo Dirty Diapers (chocolate oatmeal cookies in a folded diaper pouches)
- Diaper Strawberry Tarts
- Diaper Shaped Crescent Rolls
- Peanut Butter Cheerios “Poop Mounds”
Baby Shower Diaper Games
Baby shower games are a fun way to spend time with your friends as you do strange things sometimes. When your baby shower games involve diapers, things get even weirder and more fun.
I searched around and found a number of great diaper-themed baby shower games for you to play during the party!
- Baby Shower Poopy Diaper Game where you melt various candies into baby diapers and guests have to guess what candy bars they are. Events to Celebrate has a printable list of clues to give for various candy bars too. I have done this at many baby showers.
- Don’t Drop the Diaper – Played in pairs, one person has an empty diaper box, and the other person throws them into the box. The team that catches the most wins.
- Box Balance – Balance a Diaper Box on your head for as long as possible.
- Diaper Fashion where you attach as many diapers to themselves within a certain timeframe.
- Wipe Out Game, where you need to pull out all the wipes from a container before someone else.
- Time each other putting diapers on a doll and getting the doll completely dressed in an outfit. Do in a team where each one can only use one hand.
- Pin a cloth diaper on a balloon, while blindfolded.
Diaper Party Games Party Favors
It’s always fun for guests to get little treats (literally) for winning various diaper games. Of course, you can have whatever sort of prizes you’d like, from candy and chocolates to candles and gift certificates. It’s really up to you and what you can afford, plan, and know people will actually want or like.
A fun way to pass out party favors during the event is with a diaper raffle. Everyone who attends your party, or brought diapers for the mom-to-be, will be able to place a ticket into a raffle for fun prizes during the baby shower.
I also had the fun idea of wrapping a small party favor inside a rolled up diaper that looks like a baby rattle!
My kids helped me roll the diapers. The rattles make for fun decorations until people win them at the party.
Diaper Party Gift Idea
While the diaper cake and all of its awesome variants are super popular, especially for diaper parties, I had the somewhat simpler idea of gifting the mom-to-be a brand new diaper bag, full of diaper bag essentials.
Diaper Bag Gift Idea
Here are some ideas of what you can put in the gifted diaper bag:

The options are pretty open and flexible to your budget. Even second-time moms love a great new diaper bag.

My husband and I are planning to throw a baby shower party this month, which is why we’re currently looking for PSA essential stamps for our DIY invitations. Your suggestion of writing funny phrases in the diaper seems like a brilliant idea as well. I also like your tips serving diaper-themed treats, such as placing oatmeal cookies in folded diaper pouches.
