My oldest niece, who is a mere 7 years younger than me, announced she was getting married this summer and personally called and invited my husband and me to attend her ceremony. Fortunately, the timing worked out and we planned for months on attending her early June wedding.
As the big day came closer we had to figure out what exactly to gift the bride and groom. We haven’t been invited to many weddings over the years and were a bit clueless about a great wedding gift idea.
We thought back to what we liked receiving from our wedding, but also thought about having a little fun with what we gave, because, why not?
My husband and I have a fun sense of humor about things and decided to actually follow through with creating funny wedding gifts!
Funny Wedding Gifts: Choose Your Own Adventure
My niece and her new husband are both members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (as are we) and it’s common in Mormon Culture for a couple to 1) Marry young and 2) Start their families young.
My niece was still 21 when she got married this summer (though turned 22 the next month). To poke fun at the this Mormon Culture thing (but also be somewhat practical and helpful) my husband came up with the idea of gifting them two different boxes each with a specific adventure waiting for them inside each one.
Funny Wedding Gifts Idea #1: The Honeymoon Wedding Gift Box
The first funny wedding gift box is a “Honeymoon Box.”
As young Christians (Mormons) they believed in chastity before marriage, so this box was to help them get started in their fun new adventures in the bedroom together and in their marriage overall!
Our note on the package said “Congratulations on your new adventure! We hope this first gift will make it a more enjoyable ride! Open me first!”
Inside this sexy honeymoon box, we included:
We thought about also including the following:
- Scented Candles (with matches)
- Game of Life Bed Sheets or Silky Bedsheets
- Chocolates
- Movie Passes
- The 5 Love Languages (We were gifted this at our wedding!)
- The Dating Diva products
Funny Wedding Gifts #2: Ready for the Next Adventure Wedding Gift Box
In addition to the first box, we thought it would be great to have a sort of gag gift that was all about them being ready to start the next big adventure that comes after marriage – having a baby!
So this gift tag said “You just started a new journey together but if you are ready for another then open this gift! Open me second!”
Inside this baby wedding gift was:
We also thought about including:
We didn’t really want to go too extravagant on this secondary funny wedding gift, as they will likely not actually need these items for a long time, and we do value practicality and frugality (wasting money on things they can’t use or won’t use for a while doesn’t make for a great wedding present).
So, in addition to these gifts, we also gave them a New Home Welcome Gift with various cleaning supplies and things they’ll need for their new home.
Did she like her funny wedding gifts?
Okay, so I bet you are wondering what my niece thought of our funny wedding gifts.
Was she happy or annoyed?
Well, this is what her thank you card from her wedding said:
Thank you all so much for coming all the way here to celebrate our special day with us! It was so fun to get to see you all!
Your gift was fun, practical, and one of my favorites.. Thanks for the laugh!”
She totally got it and enjoyed it! Of course, we knew my niece well enough to know she would probably think it’s funny instead of rude or offensive. Be sure you know the bride and groom well enough before you try to gift funny wedding gifts!

Have you ever gifted something “different” at a wedding?
