Want to memorize scriptures about God this year? Want helpful free scripture printables to go along with them? Then you’re in luck! Keep reading for 12 worthwhile scriptures about God to memorize in 2018!
Last year, I wrote a post about 12 scriptures worth memorizing in 2017.
In that post, I mentioned that I needed a way to up my scripture game with my kids and boy did this do the trick!
Of course, they spent just as much time not paying attention to the verses as they spent pretending to pay attention to memorizing the scriptures. (Insert maniacal laughter here).
I’ve been worrying that I aimed a bit too high. After all my kids are all under six. Yes, you read that right – all four are under six. I can actually hear your eyes roll.
I do know that they are young. Most of them too young probably to really even “get” scriptures.
But seriously, if they can repeat the word “butt” over and over and over and over (*sob*), then they can at least pretend to learn the words of a scripture too.
I don’t really expect them to remember the entire verse. What I want is for the words and pattern of scripture to start to become normal to them. Because when God is ready to talk to them, scriptures are the most common way he will do that.
In keeping with my new tradition, I’ve picked a whole new set of scriptures to focus on in 2018. I also choose to focus on the blessings we receive by building and maintaining a solid relationship with God.
Don’t forget Katelyn’s super awesome advice on memorizing scriptures with kids. You can download the entire pack of printables (all 12 months) HERE or by filling out the form below!
Scriptures about God Blessing Us So We Should Bless Others
- Hebrews 6:19: “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;”
- Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
- 1 Corinthians 16:14 “Let all your things be done with charity.”
I’m working on this entire idea with my with my five-year-old.
She is smart and spunky and sweet. And not very empathetic. She understands the logic of doing kind things but she sometimes misses how important it is to serve others who are hurting or sad even if they appear to be “ok” without our help.
Scriptures about God Making Anything Possible
- Luke 1:37: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
- Matthew 17:20: “… If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
- James 1:5: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
As a mom, I love this line. I want my kids to feel like anything is possible with God’s help. I also want them to be aware enough to know their limitations and when they truly need God’s help to accomplish something. And when they need it, I want them to know God will help them do anything.
Over the holidays we visited my sister. While we were there we took the kids to the park where my five-year-old climbed a huge pyramid jungle gym thingy. She made it about halfway up, about 15 feet in the air when she decided to come down.
Ok, ok…. I wouldn’t let her climb higher on her own (feel free to judge me or not but seriously she is five!).
I’m only three months postpartum after my fourth c-section and so climbing up to help her was totally out of the question. My brother-in-law offered to help her.
As he was climbing up to meet her, I asked him not to physically help her unless she was falling and to only tell her that she could do it (and not put “don’ts” and worries in her head).
As I expected, she climbed down by herself without incident and celebrated with hugs and high fives for her bravery.
I love that I can help her feel that nothing is impossible. But I purposely saved this one for a month after Luke 1:37. I want my kids to know that nothing is impossible, but only because God will help us when we need it.
Scriptures about God Being With You
- Isaiah 43:5: “Fear not: for I am with thee…”
- Psalms 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
- Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
These three are for me.
As I head into new phases of life, sisterhood, and motherhood, I appreciate the reminder that I don’t have to be afraid because my God is with me. And if I am afraid, he is waiting to take me up in his arms and comfort me.
Scriptures about God Lifting and Blessing You
- Psalms 147:6: “The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.”
- Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
- Galatians 5:22: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.”
About a week ago, some of my fantastic friends were discussing how they each were not meek. In turn, we all disagreed and spent time discussing how being “meek” doesn’t mean being mousey, or cowardly, or cowed.
According to the 1828 Websters Dictionary, meek is “appropriately humble, in an evangelical sense; submissive to the divine will; not proud, self-sufficient or refractory; not peevish and apt to complain of divine dispensations”.
And once we recognize that the Lord want meek but not invisible servants, we need to let our light shine. Let others see the good the Lord works in our lives. The fruits of his spirit.
“And with that, another year passes, and a new one begins. A year for family, a year for truth, a year for unexpected blessings, and a year for love.” (When Calls the Heart, 2016)

I love it that you are thoughtfully planting seeds of the gospel in your kids’ minds. You are putting important words and concepts there so that someday, when they need those words and are mature enough to have a deeper understanding of those words, they are there. You can’t recall something you’ve never learned but the spirit can bring to your remembrance something you already know, & usually just when you need it. You are giving your kids a lifelong blessing!

Becky: Thanks! That was my exact thought. I read once that taking young kids to church is hard (so, so, so true) but, even if it seems impossible that they are taking anything away from the meetings, their spirit is learning even if their bodies are not ready to yet.
Faith says
Also. By not taking them to church, we’re deciding for them to not learn about a basic value our society structure and value system was built on. We’re deciding for them what their choice will be. Doesn’t that go against the very principle our society is built on? Oir kids cant choose church if they dont know about it.

Thank you for this. My family is currently going through a great time of spiritual warfare. I am working to learn to trust and listen to God and get closer to him. I wish I would have found this sooner. I am going to visit your blog and follow. Thank you! Just know that this was exactly what someone needed even in September!

I’ve been wanting to start memorizing scriptures, but I wasn’t sure where to start. Thanks for this list. I’ll be sure to save it so I can come back and look at these scriptures later!
