When we moved into our apartment the bathtub was a not very clean bathtub, and proved difficult to get sparkling.
I am gonna assume one of the previous tenants had a bathmat they used, which had lots of little circle disks underneath it, which has damaged the tub and left light little circles that prove hard to get pearly white again. The joys of apartment living.
My husband has used various products, as have I, hoping we’ll get a sparkling clean bathtub yet.
My latest product to wage war against the grime bathtub was a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.I have used Magic Erasers around my home, mainly for removing crayon, pen, pencil, and dirt marks from my walls, door frames, and doors. I honestly haven’t used them for much else around my house.
Until now.
I hate cleaning the bathrooms, especially the bathtub. I hate how you need to practically get into it, or learn over it to clean it, which hurts my back.
And then there is the rinsing with the shower head and/or cup, which sprays water all over myself and my otherwise cleaned bathroom.
No thank you!
How to Clean a Bathtub with Magic Erasers
But, now I have found my solution – Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. To use, simply wet, wring, and clean. The little nubby part on the Extra Power ones really help you scrub away dirt. Those dirty little circles from Previous Tenant are the brightest and whitest we’ve ever seen them!
And you know those dirty little marks you often get on the edges of your tub? Came off with a few easy wipes. The only thing I still couldn’t seem to remove 100% were the hard water/scum build-up at the front of the tub. But, they still became less noticeable.
P.S. I am sorry that my pictures don’t do it justice. Have you ever tried taking photos in a bathroom? The lighting is terrible, and our tub and tile are all white which is very hard to photograph. No, it’s not 100% white, but it is the most beautiful tub we’ve ever had! And it was so easy to clean.
I didn’t have to rinse the tub, and it even works on the tile and grout around the tub too. I am totally sold. Since it’s not a harsh chemical, my kids can use them to clean their bathrooms/tub (it’s one of their weekly chores). I also used it on my shower rod, which was in a desperate need of wiping.
Can I use this in place of commercial cleaners?
What I used this bathtub cleaner for was to get the dirt and grime off. The soft sponge aspect worked really well so that it didn’t scratch anything, and it got into the grout lines, making them super simple to clean.
I wouldn’t use this as my sole cleaner for the tub, but it is a good thing to use to clean an acrylic bathtub or fiberglass tubs with ease. It’s also an excellent tile cleaner if you have that on the walls surrounding your fiberglass bathtub.
How often should I clean my dirty tub?
While there is no set rule on this, regular cleaning is going to be best. The sooner that you clean your bathtub and the more often that you do so, those bathtub stains are going to be easier to clean. Each time will be easier than the last time.
Since the bathtub is of constant use, I would recommend putting it on your radar to try and clean weekly, but at least a couple of times a month would be a good idea if possible.
This will help to eliminate a soap scum ring and will keep the surface of the bathtub looking clean and shiny.
What is the best way to get a porcelain bathtub clean?
I’m not really a fan of using abrasive cleaners on my tub, so I like to use warm water and dish soap to scrub around at first. If that will get a tub clean and remove tough stains, I’m happy with that! I also use an old toothbrush on some bathtub stains because those small bristles make it super simple to scrub.
The easiest way to stop that soap scum buildup is to clean the entire tub with either a scrub brush or an old toothbrush, using a circular motion. This will get the tub’s surface nice and clean without using any abrasive materials.

My least favorite thing to clean is the bathtub! I have an old iron tub that has been re-enameled and part of that has peeled off. Hoping this Magic Eraser trick works well. I have tried so many different things!

Least favourite thing to clean . . . Can I just say my house? LOL. I joke (but it’s not entirely a joke) that I want my own little house, just for me, so when the kid-mess in this house gets too much I can just escape to my own clean and organised space. Because of course none of this mess is actually mine! 🙂
