Arts & Crafts Boxes Guaranteed to Help Kids Creativity
I love summer! I don’t know about y’all, but I am really enjoying a break from the constant routine of waking up early, leaving the house at 2:40 pm to go and pick up my daughter, and making lunches every day. So far we’ve enjoyed swimming outdoors, exercising together on walks, and playing with friends.
As a stay-at-home mom, I’m really good about taking my kids to the pool, setting up play dates, and beating them at Candy Land, but I’m not so good at doing arts and crafts with my kids.
I usually give my two girls (ages 3 and 5) some paper, markers, crayons, and/or colored pencils and say, “Have fun!” while I go and try to get things done around the house. It usually works really well.
However, I’ve noticed that since my 5-year-old doesn’t have the constant interaction with her peers that she’s used to, she’s starting to come into my room and ask for ideas of things to do. Since she’s naturally artistic and enjoys drawing, coloring, and coming up with her own stories, I’ve seriously been considering ordering her a kids’ arts and crafts subscription box to keep her busy this summer.
If you’re like me and you can’t justify buying a whole packet of stickers or paint just for one project, or you don’t enjoy cleaning up a bunch of glitter and glue, then why not order an arts and crafts subscription box for your kid?
These boxes keep the mess to a minimum, provide hours of entertainment for your kiddo, and teach them new skills and art techniques in the process. They are such great gifts for crafty girls and boys!
Here are my favorite arts and crafts subscription boxes for kids, starting with the craft box subscriptions and then doing the monthly art boxes!
Craft Box Subscriptions for Kids
Craft Subscription Box Doodle Crate
Doodle Crate is a craft subscription box kids will love from KiwiCo!
Each box comes with everything your child, ages 9-16+, needs to complete their own craft project and are catered to your child’s age. Each crate explores different art mediums such as pencil, watercolor, etc.
You’ll get all the materials you need to complete a project, such as writing utensils, card stock, etc. in the box.
It’s hard to copy a craft you see on Pinterest with your child if you don’t have the right tools to go along with it. Since everything’s in the box, you don’t have to worry about rushing to the store to grab extra glue or markers to complete the project.
I also like that this crafts kid craft subscription box is geared toward older kids. It’s easy to give a 5-year-old some markers and blank paper and keep them entertained, but often older children need a project that is more involved to keep them fully engaged.
KiwiCo is great about including a step-by-step instruction booklet with lots of pictures and details so your child won’t feel lost as they start the project. I also like that KiwiCo tries to make the projects useful as well as fun.
Their March 2018 craft subscription box project was making a Stained Glass Suncatcher. So kids not only get to create something unique, but they also can display it in a window for the rest of the family to admire and enjoy.
Doodle Crates are delivered monthly, and automatically renew, but you can cancel or change at any time.
Costs of the subscription boxes:
- Monthly: $19.95/month
- 3 months: $19.95/month
- 6 months: $18.50/month
- 12 months: $16.95/month
You can see that if you buy the longer subscription for a full year, you end up saving almost $100 instead of doing month-to-month. Plus, there is free shipping within the U.S.!
Take 30% off your first month with code SHARE30!
If you really enjoy crafting/doing projects with your kids, you’re going to be investing about $20 a month anyway to get the appropriate tools and supplies. This way you don’t have to pack all the kids in the car and drive to the store to do a fun project together.
I’m not a big crafter, so I like that I don’t have to come up with my own projects by scanning the Internet or typing out a whole bunch of instructions.

Craft Subscription Box Surprise Ride {Not Currently Available}
Surprise Ride was founded by two sisters whose aim is to reduce screen time for kids and involve them in more hands-on projects.
If you order their kid craft subscription box, you’ll get everything you need to make the project, including step-by-step instructions.
Each kit comes with all project supplies, a book, and a collectible item to discover science, art, and culture together. Their past projects include: paint a birdhouse, perform a magic show, build a model moon, etc.
Surprise Ride is recommended for kids ages 5 and up. You can either buy a kit in their online shop as a one-time purchase, or sign up for their monthly craft box subscription.

- 6 Months $19.95 + $3.95 /month (pay upfront)
- 12 Months $17.95 + $3.95 /month (pay upfront)
I like that the two founders specifically started their company to help kids get off the couch and get creative! I am not super crafty, so I like that everything you need to make the project is included in the box.
They have a lot of positive reviews, and they were featured on ABC’s “Shark Tank” which is pretty cool.

Art Subscription Boxes for Kids
Art Subscription Box Terra Create
Terra Create is a monthly art box subscription for kids who love to create and are inspired by the outdoors.
Each month, your kid ages 8-12 will get arts and crafts supplies curated around a particular nature theme. For example, wood, wind, sea, etc.
Each box will contain instructions, supplies, and a short learning module about the element, the cultural history of the art form, or other interesting tidbits.
Past boxes include: Make a Mini Herb Garden, Dream Catchers, Lunar Calendar, Winter Candles, etc.
What I really like about their monthly art box subscription is that you can pick a subscription for 1 kid or 2 kids! There are not a lot of art subscription boxes available that supply enough materials in a box for two kids to be creative.
I also think it’s cool that they are trying to appeal to older kids, since a lot of kids around age 9 lose interest in creating art projects. They really seem to know their audience, because most of the crafts on their website are more “mature” and don’t look like something a little kid could handle.
Terra Create Costs for 1 kid:
- Monthly: $29.00/month
- 3 month prepay: $87
- 6 month prepay: $162
- Shipping is not included in the price, and is $5 a month.
Terra Create for 2 kids:
- Monthly: $39.00/month
- 3 month prepay: $111
- 6 month prepay: $222
You can also buy single boxes for slightly cheaper than a full subscription at $27.95. Shipping is not included in the price, and is $5 a month. All subscriptions automatically renew. You can cancel or change at any time.

Art Subscription Box KidArtLit
The KidArtLit subscription box is where art meets story time and helps you build a family culture of creativity and reading. Their aim is to help raise creative and curious kids, build a curated home library, help you connect as a family, make reading and art part of your family’s routing and give experiences rather than “stuff.”
Each month you receive a handpicked boutique-quality picture book with a related open-ended art project to go along with it for your family, a “ready-set-go pack”, and a mini magazine. All are geared toward children ages 3-8.
The art projects might focus on painting, printmaking, textiles or sculpture. The art projects are not designed to be Pinterest perfect, but your own unique creations (though some structure is provided). They also give you a generous amount of art supplies, enough for you to the do each project twice which is pretty awesome, especially if you have multiple kids!
KidArtLit Costs:
- $49.95 Monthly
- $145.35 for 3 Months or $48.45/month
- $284.72 for 6 Months or $47.45/month

Plan auto-renew but you can pause or cancel at any time. Shipping and taxes are not included but they ship worldwide.
So what if you really don’t want to sign up for an arts and crafts box subscription, but you still want your kid to get some good crafting ideas?
Well, there’s this great website called Craftsy! They have all kinds of video tutorials on everything from making jewelry to quilting to photography. With their Family Craftsy Unlimited service called Craftsy, kids can have access to hours of arts and crafts videos so they can learn and create all on their own.
Do all the craft projects come with detailed instructions?
Yes, they do! Each new craft and all unique crafts tell you what to do. This is what I love about monthly subscription boxes!
Are all the monthly boxes a different theme?
Typically, yes. Each month subscription has varied fun activities for kids of all ages. This is a fun way and a great option to do a variety of projects.
Doing arts and crafts with your kid doesn’t have to be a huge hassle, crazy expensive, or boring. I hope my list of the best arts and crafts subscription boxes for kids gave you some great ideas on what would work best for your child.
