Interested in Stitch Fix Maternity? Here’s my honest Stich Fix Maternity Review of the various Stitch Fix maternity clothes I received in two different boxes.
I am currently expecting baby number five in about a month and feeling very pregnant. And like usual, hating all of my maternity clothes. I don’t have a large selection of tops or bottoms to choose from, and most are not my favorite in the first place. They either don’t fit like I’d like them too or are cut lower than I want or are too tight or don’t cover my enormous belly all the way.
I do not love maternity clothes. It’s a big struggle for me every pregnancy, which is why I wrote a post about where to find cheap maternity clothes during my last pregnancy.
And while I know that Stitch Fix prices are not cheap, as I’ve tried Stitch Fix three times before (while not pregnant) and have debated often about the Stitch Fix Pros and Cons, especially the con of the Stitch Fix costs, I decided to give Stitch Fix Maternity a whirl because I had some credits and I was curious.
Oh, and they also have a waived styling fee promotion that I totally took advantage of (and is still going on if you want to try them risk-free too!) so I knew I wouldn’t be out the $20 styling fee if I sent everything back. There was nothing to lose by giving it a shot. Plus, I could then give a Stitch Fix maternity review on my blog so you could see if it could be a good fit for you!
What is Stitch Fix?
But, let’s back up just a smidge first.
If you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, it’s one of the most popular styling services for women, pregnant women, plus-size women, and men out there. You fill out a style quiz and sizing chart in your profile, select a date you’d like to receive a shipment, and then wait for a Stitch Fix stylist to select and ship five pieces for you to wear. The items include tops, bottoms, jewelry, and shoes.
My style questionnaire was still filled out in my profile from last time, I just had to switch it to say I wanted maternity clothes.
The Stitch Fix Maternity clothes are not run through a different styling quiz, it’s really just a button you select. Which made me nervous they’d send me regular non-maternity clothes so I made sure to mention in my note to my stylist that I wanted pregnancy clothes for someone who is 8 months pregnant. I said I wanted something comfortable, but maybe something a bit nicer as I had my anniversary coming up.
Thankfully, my stitch fix box was full of maternity clothes.
Stitch Fix Maternity Review – Box #1
My first maternity Stitch Fix box came right before I hit 32 weeks pregnant, and right before my 9th wedding anniversary.
Inside my box I had the following note from my Stitch Fix Stylist:
Hi there Katelyn, happy November!
I am sorry to see that your last Fix wasn’t a great match. I am very eager to style you this month and I am hopeful that we can make up for that abit as well.
This month I focused on some 3rd trimester looks that will hopefully have you feeling stylish, comfortable, and of course beautiful. Let’s kick things off with this awesome and probably much-needed little black dress by Leota. Rock this witha combination of fun jewelry like this Stella & Ruby for your date night. It’s the essence of fall right now, so your new style will be right on trend with the season.
Speaking of the season… With the holiday season fast approaching, I’m always eager to know what plans you have in store so that we can style you appropriately. I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts. XOXO, Blake Lindsey.
And here are the different items I received:
Daniel Rainn Maternity Waverly Maternity Crochet Detail Blouse – $68.00
The first top I tried on was this pretty blue linen top. And I was not impressed. Because of the crochet detail, I had to wear a tank underneath this top as I’m a Mormon and need a certain level of coverage because I wear LDS garments. And I really do not like layering while pregnant. I already have a lot of layers going on and warmth so it’s just a no-go for layering. Also, the shirt had like zero stretch! A maternity top without stretch? Also, the style is not something I’d usually wear and it also did not cover the bottom part of my belly. It’s a big no from me.
Loveappella Maternity Celsia Maternity Keyhole Back Knit Top – $54.00
Despite the 3/4 length sleeves making this boat-neck maternity top a little warmer, this top was very stretchy, long (which is important as I’m 5′ 9″ tall and have a lot of belly to cover) and cute! I don’t own any tops with a floral design but feel like florals are all the rage right now.
I actually decided to keep this top! It is definitely a bit of a splurge at $54 for a shirt, but I thought it would be perfect to wear out on a date, or pair with a skirt and wear to church (which I have) as it’s nicer than many of the tops I currently have. I also felt like there was still room for my belly to grow in it. I just hope it holds up well!
Loveappella Maternity Shenol Maternity Knit Top – $54.00
This top is actually very cute! I like the colors and how it’s fall/Christmasy, but I had two problems with it. First, it was WARM. With those long sleeves I was baking up. I live in Texas and don’t usually need warm clothes, even in the “winter.” Second, I didn’t feel like I had much room to grow in this top. The sides were stretched to their max and it wasn’t as long as I felt like I’d need it to be at full-term. I ended up passing on it but still think it’s a great top.
Leota Reye Maternity Faux Wrap Velvet Dress – $88.00
When I was pulling this one out of my box, I was flabbergasted. Velvet? Black velvet in Texas? I thought I’d be much to warm in such a dress! Thankfully, because it’s a dress and not hugging me, it wasn’t actually as warm as I thought it’d be. However, it has a deep “faux wrap” V-neck which meant I had to wear a tank top underneath my dress again, which I really don’t like to do. It was also too short on the legs. This was also a no for me.
Stella & Ruby Shai Stone Collar Necklace – $38.00
This Stitch Fix necklace was pretty, but such fall, earthy tones that I didn’t really love it. I much prefer fun, bright springy colors and this was just not the right colors or style for me to keep it, especially at almost $40.
I kept the one top (the very first piece of clothing I’ve kept from Stitch Fix so way to go stylist! I’ve only kept jewelry before!) at $54 plus tax, but thankfully it cost me nothing as I had credits.
However, I have noticed it piling some after I’ve washed it now a few times…. I’m supposed to let it dry flat, which is hard to remember.
Stitch Fix Maternity Review – Box #2
Because I could get my next Stitch Fix styling fee waived, as their waived styling fee promotion was still going on, I figured I would give them another go, and get a better sampling of the types of clothes Stitch Fix offers for maternity. Here’s what I received in box #2!
Note from my stylist:
Hi Katelyn! I’m so glad to be styling you today for your second maternity fix.
With the holidays fast approaching, I really wanted to find you the perfect dress but I’m sorry that I couldn’t come up with one with the coverage that you needed. So, instead I put together a collection of more casual pieces that will keep you comfortable for the remainder of your journey.
The Liverpool skinny jeans have a comfortable maternity band and amazing stretch. The Skies are Blue floral knit top does have lace detail but with a fabric backing plus it’s a romantic print you’ll love. I often suggest to clients to try dressing up the Madigan Knit top with a print that is a little more glam and can be paired with black pants and the Bancroft long pearl necklace.
Thank you for letting me style you today. Happy holidays Cassandra.
Liverpool Dark Wash Skinny Jeans – $78
These jeans were pretty boring. They are a flat dark wash skinny jean. And honestly, they were too big. They were bulky in the crotch and in the ankle and just weren’t a good fit. My worries about the belly band not holding them up didn’t seem to be an issue while I tried them on with the different tops I got, but at almost $80, a big pass. Plus, I just bought a new pair of straight leg maternity jeans from Motherhood Maternity before my trip to Omaha for Thanksgiving and they were only like $35. So…. yeah. Pass. I really only need one pair of maternity jeans at this point.
Skies Are Blue Floral Knit Top – $48
This top wasn’t really my style. While I did keep the above floral print maternity top, this one, was, too pastel and girly for me with the lace and just all of it. Not a huge fan. And trying it on didn’t make it any better for me. It was a bit short and I just didn’t like it.
Loveappella Striped Keyhole in Back Top – $48
This top was the best of the bunch in terms of fit, style, and non-see-throughness. However, it was still only a striped maternity shirt. And I feel like I already have a shirt very similar to this in my maternity clothing collection, so I didn’t really want to spend almost $50 on this one. Maybe if I still have several months to go, I likely would have splurged on it.
Healdsburg 3/4 Sleeve Boatneck Madigan Knit Top – $54
This blue, 3/4 quarter-length sleeve top with an Aztec-like pattern was okay. It was very stretchy and long but not really my style, and I felt like the more it stretched over bumps, the more see-through it was, which I did not like, especially for this much money. So, I passed.
Bancroft Long Pearl Necklace – $34
I really liked this necklace! I like long chain gold necklaces and pearls, so win there for Stitch Fix! They really seem to get my jewelry-sense. The only weird part about it was that the bottom of the necklace was blank, without continuing the pattern of pearls. It was also very lightweight, so I felt like it was moving all over the place, which was annoying, and the chain was a little weak (it may have come apart when I was trying to wrap it around my neck and gently tugged on it).
In the end, I didn’t end up buying any of the items from my second Stitch Fix Maternity box! And I have decided not to order any more boxes from them at this point in my pregnancy, as I don’t think I could justify any of them right now with so little time left before my baby is born.
I do think doing Stitch Fix Maternity when you’re early on in your pregnancy makes a lot more sense than trying to justify the costs of some of these items when you only have 1-2 months left.
However, I do like knowing if certain tops and bottoms will fit well over my large baby bump at this point. If I knew for sure I’d be having more pregnancies and more babies, then it might be a good time to find pieces I really liked and wanted to invest in, as I knew they’d fit me for all nine months of a future pregnancy. But, I’m not sure we’ll have more than five kids! This may be my last pregnancy, so I’m more hesitant to spend a lot for that reason as well.
Honestly, I wish I would have continued doing Le Tote Maternity (because I love Le Tote maternity nursing tops too!) – one of several Stitch Fix maternity alternatives! I had such fun receiving new clothes and jewelry every week and I loved that I could change up what they sent me before they even sent it, selecting items from my wishlist instead.
Le Tote is a bit pricey at $69/month to keep doing month-after-month, which is why I stopped, but I got to wear lots of new-to-me clothes in a single month for the cost of one or more Stitch Fix pieces! Plus, there was no laundry to worry about and you can try out a garment for an entire day before deciding to buy it or not which I love too! And when you do buy, the prices are affordable!
I’d love to know what you do for maternity clothes and if you’ve ever tried out Stitch Fix while pregnant!
Also, don’t forget that Stitch Fix gift cards make for a great gift for pregnant women!
