Read my Atlas Crate review and discover how we’re using this KiwiCo Atlas Crate to learn geography in our homeschool! It helps kids learn culture and world citizenship.
I always enjoyed learning geography as a kid and was pretty close to competing in our elementary school’s Geography Bee (or whatever it was called).
As an adult, I’m not sure I actually knew that much then, and I don’t really know all that much now!
And now it’s up to me and my husband to educate our children on the amazing and wonderful world that we live on. No small feat for sure! We have elements of geography incorporated into our History curriculum from The Good and the Beautiful as well as a little in our Language Arts program from The Good and the Beautiful. But, it’s not super detailed or intentional, more just incidental.
My kids love learning about various parts of the world when we did the Little Passports educational subscription box a few years ago. They also love looking over maps and asking all sorts of questions about this or that. I also loved looking at maps as a kid, so it’s awesome!
So, when KiwiCo offered to send me their newest crate called Atlas Crate, I was so excited and definitely said yes I’d write up an Atlas Crate review in exchange for checking it out for free!
What is the KiwiCo Atlas Crate?
This new KiwiCo crate, Atlas Crate, features new, fun global adventure projects targeting kids ages 6-11, and is a fantastic way to get kids excited about learning new things this school year!
Each month kids explore a new destination (Japan, Peru, etc) and add to their Atlas Adventure Book with new collectible cards and stickers for those locations.
The crates each feature hands-on projects that explore world cultures and teach new STEAM concepts and encourages an appreciation for world cultures.

Atlas Crate Review
I was glad to see there was quite a few different activities you could do based on the map you receive and the booklet pages and the hands-on craft of making the globe.
My kids were super excited to make their own globe, something we don’t have in our school room! The instructions were super easy to follow and my 8-year-old assembled it by herself (though needed a little help adhering the felt stickers in just the right spots… my OCDness kicked in on that).
When it’s all put together, along with it’s stand that has latitude markings on it, it spins and looks pretty darn cool! They even give you a little felt heart to stick on the globe to mark where you live (got to love that GIANT heart over Texas!).
Thanks to the globe, the map, and the various challenges, I was able to teach my kids a little cartography as we discussed longitude and latitude and had to use different GPS coordinates to answer some questions about various parts of the world. I thought it was fun. It was somewhat challenging for my kids too. It’s a great activity that can be repeated.
The adventure booklet also has some great information on each page and we can add to it with each new box we get!
I’m really excited about this new crate as I feel like it’s definitely something that supplements our homeschool curriculum well, teaches them new skills, and is fun to assemble and play with!
