The cost of a baby is ridiculous, well, as long as you buy into those cost calculators online. You can totally have a baby on a budget and you and baby will be A-Okay. They may not be able to do everything celebrity babies do, but babies don’t care, at all. They just want love and love is free and you have plenty of it! I’m sharing my best money saving tips for moms.
My husband and I had a baby with no money. Actually, twin babies. We were both in college, finishing our last semester as they were born. We didn’t have jobs lined up after graduation, had credit card debt, and no employment. It wasn’t quite the ideal financial situation to bring two new bundles of joy into, but we made it work the best we could and our daughters, and the other two children who have come after, have been a huge blessing to our lives. We just had to learn how to budget for a baby (and life in general) and figure out what were true must-have baby items and what weren’t. We have learned many money saving tips over the past seven years of our marriage, especially for saving money on baby’s first year. We learned a lot when trying to afford twins.

Money Saving Tips for Moms Who are Pregnant
When you are pregnant, especially for the first time, you feel this pressure to buy all the things. You register for a crazy amount of stuff on your baby registry, even though you know you won’t receive everything or be able to buy it all either. That’s when it’s helpful to know the five best baby registry stores and sites. Various registries let you get a percentage off your remaining registry items, even diapers and wipes, to help you complete your baby preparations on a budget.
And when it comes to dressing your baby bump, it’s super frustrating to spend good money on maternity clothes you will wear for about six months or less. You need to know where to get maternity clothes that rock but don’t break the budget.
And sometimes you can even score free stuff for you and/or your baby while you are expecting, so check out this great big list of free stuff for moms.
Money Saving Tips for Moms Buying Baby Clothing
Ideally, when you are budgeting for a baby and planning their wardrobe, you need to embrace these seven tips for saving money on kids clothes, especially the first tip, which is, if someone offers you free clothes, you take them! I am also a fan of these three online consignment shops for buying used baby clothing.
If you are opposed to buying used, or, want to buy new for used prices, I have learned a few tricks on maximizing your savings on baby clothes at Carters so I can do just that.
When you have a baby on a budget, and find yourself with a huge amount of clothing that people have donated to you, and some which your baby has outgrown before wearing more than once or twice, you may want to find the best way to sell unwanted baby clothes. However, if you intend on having more kids, it may be worth the effort to store them, instead of selling them. But, if you need the cash in the budget, selling the clothes your baby outgrows during the year to make room int he budget for larger sizes is a great way to go.
Lastly, don’t freak out when your baby blows out of their diaper, and their clothes get poop stains all over them – there are some easy ways to remove poop stains from baby clothes!
Money Saving Tips for Moms Feeding a Baby on a Budget
If you are able, breastfeed. Breastfeeding is not only super awesome for you and your baby, but it is free. Yes, you need to make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids and eating enough, but you’d do that anyway. Breastfeeding is a great way of budgeting for a baby’s feeding needs! If you can do it for 12 months or longer, even better, but every bit of time you can nurse saves you a good chunk of change!
If you can’t breastfeed, or don’t want to, don’t freak out if you need to buy formula, even though it can be expensive. There are many high quality formulas that can be found at a low price. ALDI recently launched Little Journey products to help meet the varying needs of infants and toddlers at affordable prices. Their Little Journey powder formulas are designed to keep little tummies happy and moms and dads cool, calm, collected, and on budget.
Once your baby starts eating purees, finger foods, and other solids, you can hit up ALDI, one of America’s favorite grocery stores–according to a survey of US consumers conducted in 2016 by Market Force Information–for the Little Journey infant-to-toddler snacks! They make for nutritious eating that is easy, delicious (my one year old baby loved everything from Little Journey, sucking down a pouch in about a minute or two with my help), and affordable for moms on a budget for a baby.
Money Saving Tips for Moms Diapering a Baby on a Budget
When you are having a baby with no money, it’s super helpful to know where and how to get free diapers! However, it’s not always possible to keep that stream of free diapers coming in (don’t we all wish!) so budgeting for a baby’s diapering needs is a must for new parents.
If you can cloth diaper and desire to, cloth diapering is the best way to save on diapering a baby. It’s more up front, and there is a lot you have to learn in order to do it properly and efficiently, but over the course of your baby’s 2.5-3.5 years of wearing a diaper before potty training begins, you will save a lot of money! If you use the cloth diapers on subsequent babies, the savings are incredible.
But, many people, like myself, have no desire to cloth diaper, despite how budget-friendly it is. So, I’m left figuring out how to score high-quality diapers at affordable prices.
ALDI Little Journey diapers and Little Journey wipes are high-quality and much more affordable than many popular name brand diapers and wipes. Their diapers aren’t very bulky and fit well.
Though, should their diaper (or any diaper) not withstand all that is your child’s #2, you can still remove the baby stain from clothes, and you can remove pee stains from a mattress in case #1 is too much or potty training goes wrong.
For more information about the complete line of Little Journey’s nearly 50 products and pricing, visit the ALDI website. They have everything from newborn diapers to training pants, cleansing wipes to gentle baby wash and formula to solid snacks. ALDI has parent’s everyday essentials in one convenient place!
