Looking for LEGO Advent Calendars? Read on to discover where to buy LEGO advent calendars, the different themes for LEGO Advent Calendars – Harry Potter, Star Wars, City, and Friend – when they’re released, age ranges, and how many pieces they have.
I don’t know about your kids, but they love getting LEGOs for Christmas.
LEGOs were featured strongly in my gift ideas for 8-year-old girls and for good reason. They are fun to build and play with!
A LEGO advent calendar is a fun, and affordable, way to gift your child (or children) LEGO for Christmas without having to buy some giant kit (though you might still do that too).
They also get to look forward to opening new LEGO pieces every day for 24 days of their favorite characters. They make some of the best toy advent calendars out there.
Okay, so you probably already know you want to buy one, so here’s what you need to know about buying LEGO Advent Calendars.
LEGO Advent Calendars
Starting in 2019, LEGO offers four new LEGO advent calendar options for its fan base each year. They are:
- LEGO City Advent Calendar
- LEGO Friends Advent Calendar
- LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar
- LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar
Four options are great for people with large families who don’t want to gift all their children the exact same LEGO advent calendars (like me).
They are also designed for different age groups, with City for ages 5+, Friends for girls ages 6+, Stars Wars for ages 6+, and Harry Potter for ages 7+.
The number of LEGO pieces in each advent calendar varies between the four, and varies from year to year.
In 2019, the fewest number of pieces is in the LEGO City advent calendar with 234 pieces and the greatest number of pieces in the LEGO Friends Advent Calendar with 330 pieces.
The other two fall in between with 280 LEGO pieces (Star Wars) and 305 LEGO pieces (Harry Potter).
All pieces found in these special holiday advent calendars can be used with all other original LEGO sets and LEGO bricks for continued play and creative building.
Every year the LEGO pieces inside the advent calendar change somewhat.
How Much do LEGO Advent Calendars Cost?
The set retail cost for a LEGO City Advent calendar and a LEGO Friend Advent calendar is $29.99.
The LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar and the LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar are $39.99. Blame that additional cost on the official licensing.
However, prices will vary depending on where you purchase your LEGO Advent Calendars (and if they are running a sale), and if you are buying a current year Christmas advent calendar, the quantity remaining, or if you are buying a previous year’s version.
LEGO Advent Calendar Release Date
The LEGO advent calendar release date is usually sometime around September 1 (or at least it was in 2019) with pre-ordering available on sites like Amazon.com as early as August 10.
If the advent calendars go out of stock early (which they often do), then you may also see the remaining stock online go much higher.
Where Can You Buy LEGO Advent Calendars
Okay, this may or may not be all that shocking, but you can buy LEGO Advent calendars practically anywhere with a toy department.
These advent calendars are HOT holiday items!
It’s LEGO plus Harry Potter and Star Wars, all mixed together as a daily present that’s affordable, and creates a holiday family tradition.
It’s a no-brainer Christmas gift for many families, so stores stock them like crazy.
But, they do sell out. Sometimes fast. You have been warned. It’s why pre-ordering is totally a thing with these!
There are numerous brick and mortar stores that sell these LEGO advent calendars, but I’m going to focus on the online stores that sell them, in case your physical toy stores and toy departments run out early of the one(s) you want.
The following links should take you directly to the LEGO advent calendars on their websites (and note – I’ve tried to only included online stores that sell all four options and haven’t jacked up the prices on them):
If you don’t find one from those locations, you can always hit up the Google Shopping section.
Because I know many of us like shopping on Amazon, here is a list of 2019, 2018, and 2017 LEGO advent calendars:
