I have a very creative, energetic, dramatic, and outgoing 7-year-old son. He is hilarious and smart and always talking. So much talking!
He loves building, drawing, playing soccer, doing math, telling jokes, making videos, driving racecars, and more!
So, when it comes to gifting him something special for Christmas here soon (and birthday a few months later), I am looking for a fun gift as fun and cool as he is!
This list is for strictly FUN gift ideas for 7-year-old boys. Not educational per say or “needed” items like clothing or books. All of those are great gifts for boys, but I’m targeting just the BIG fun gifts that little boys will surely love (if they are anything like my son at least – I am basing most of these recommendations on my son’s actual interests and likes – adjust accordingly).
Fun Toys for 7-Year-Old Boys
SGILE RC Cars
My son has always loved cars. He has a good 30+ Matchbox racecars and tracks. The great thing about racecars as they are as cheap as $1 each!
But, as he’s gotten older, he craves for the real deal remote-controlled cars he can have fun driving up and down our street, and chasing his younger siblings with!
We were given two new SGILE RC cars and I can’t wait for my son to receive them on Christmas day. I gave them a little test drive ahead of time, and they are dad-approved (and my husband is a big car guy, as is his dad, hence where my son gets his love of sports cars).
The first one is the SGILE RC Stunt Car Toy on Amazon for MSRP $26.99. It’s a fun lime green color (or red) and can rotate 360 degrees and flip over and do all sorts of awesome tricks!
The second one is the SGILE remote-controlled RC Speedy Drift Car on Amazon for MSRP $39.99. A super nice feature of this car is the 50-minute battery life, so play can go on for a nice long time! We’ve had other cars that had batteries die out after just 20 minutes. It’s a super fun one to speed around the yard, and easy to use and control!
ThinkFun! Board Games & Puzzles
My 7-year-old boy loves playing board games, card games, doing puzzles, and brain teasers. He’s a competitive kid and loves to win. We regularly play board games and recently received some new games from ThinkFun! who creates great games for kids.
We have several ThinkFun games already in our house. My son loves the Laser Chess (similar to their Laser Maze), and Shadows in the Forest, as well as the Ravensburger Gravitrax!
This year we’re gifting him the Minecraft Magnetic Travel Puzzle, Mystic Market (my son won the first time we played it, and I greatly enjoy it too), Chicken War (kinda like the “Guess Who” game but more involved), and several brainteasers (all of which I solved) including the 4 T Puzzle, Rec-Tangle Puzzle, the Fifth Chair puzzle, and the surprisingly hard 4-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle. A lot of these games are suggested for 8-year-old kids and up, but my son is pretty bright, but keep that in mind.
- My First Rush Hour (ages 3+)
- Chicken War
- Mystic Market (ages 10+)
- Escape The Room – The Cursed Dollhouse (recommended for ages 13+)
- Moon Spinner

Best Choice Products Ride-In Car
My son has been asking for YEARS now for a ride-in car. They are expensive though, so we haven’t ever bought him one. He’s really laying it on thick this year though, writing to Santa, and telling us again and again that it is what he really wants for Christmas.
To make it even more expensive, he’s requesting that it have two seats so that he can drive his younger sisters around in it. (He’s such a thoughtful and loving older brother!)
I found the perfect ride for him (and a sister) – The 12V 2-Seater Land Rover Ride-On from Best Choice Products! It is recommended for kids ages 3-8 years old too, so he can cruise around in it yet for over a year. We have a nice big yard he can zoom around in it too.
I’m sure his wild imagination would foster hours of extra fun with this bad boy, especially with the hood that flips up for storage! Thankfully, it’s on a SUPER sale at $230 off!! You can get it here.
Andymation Flipbook Kit
Has your 7-year-old boy ever watched Andymation Youtube videos? If not, he’ll love them!
Andy’s flipbooks are awesome, creative, and FUN. Every time we watch his videos on Youtube, my son the next day makes his own flipbooks, but with lined paper, of all different sizes, so it’s not as awesome as he’d like.
Andy sells his own high-quality Flipbook Kit though! We are gifting this to our son this year for Christmas and I’m so excited to see his reaction! But, really, it’s a gift I think we’ll ALL use as a family (as I love to draw too).
You can get the Andymation Flipbook Kit on Amazon for $44.97 plus $6.57 shipping (sorry – no Prime delivery!). This kit is better than all the others though!
LEGOs and LEGO Table
My son absolutely loves LEGO. Actually, all of my kids old enough to play with LEGOs are in a huge LEGO kick right now, spending hours and hours together playing and creating new worlds. It is amazing! So, unsurprisingly, my son wants more LEGOs and usually BIG sets and car sets and all of it.
Is it any wonder I made sure LEGO was included in my list of Classic Toys Kids Play with for Years?
My son enjoys the process of putting together the sets, sometimes more than actually playing with them, and he and his older sister have been known to take apart big sets just so they can put them back together. For real.
What LEGO set you gift your 7-year-old boy will depend on what he’s into.
LEGO set gift ideas for 7-year-old boys include:
- Awesome LEGO Ninjago dragons
- LEGO Technic Cars (my husband helps him assemble these)
- LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Sets
- LEGO Harry Potter
- LEGO Minecraft
If you are looking for a LEGO table, Wayfair has lots of great options too! Be sure to check out my list of LEGO Advent Calendars.
STEM Boxes and Kits
For my math-loving, building-loving, creative, smart 7-year-old boy, gifting him STEM items is just fun! There are so many fun STEM gift ideas out there, so it’s hard to narrow this down to specific items.
To help you though, you can check out my STEM gift posts:
We have tried out so many science-based subscription boxes and love so many of them! We also have several OSMO games that are fun to incorporate some learning into iPad playtime.
NERF Toys
My son would probably love NERF guns and products, but we have chosen not to do NERF personally, and not because we are anti-gun or anything (I actually have a gifts for new gun owners gift guide on this blog), it is really more about having 1000 bullets all over my house to clean up! 🤣 And I don’t want kids shooting each all the time.
All that said, NERF toys are super fun gifts for 7-year-old boys!! You can get some from Walmart or Amazon.
Sporting Goods/Equipment
From bikes to trampolines, roller skates, and hoverboards, sporting goods, balls, nets, and other classic outdoor equipment gifts are awesome for 7-year-old boys! I have an entire post full of awesome fun gift ideas for sport-loving kiddos!
My son particularly loves our Genesis archery set, his bike, Frisbee, ball and glove, and roller skates!

Costumes
Even 7-year-old boys like to dress up still! He also enjoys sporting his various superhero costumes from time to time, as well as his dinosaur costume, huge shark head, and other costumes! They just make pretend play more fun!
Last year we ordered all the big kids their own special Harry Potter wands. This year my 7-year-old son is asking for his own Harry Potter robes, like his big sister has. You can find all sorts of great costumes on HalloweenCostumes.com.
You can also check out my post on where to find used Halloween costumes, as well as cheap Halloween costumes online.
And those are my top fun gift ideas for 7-year-old boys! I am sure there are plenty more things a 7 year old will love, so be creative and gift him some fun!
Good luck!
